I am an Indigenous Mayan from Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. From an early age I was exposed to art thanks to my parents. My mother Fidelia, worked with colourful embroidery on clothing worn by indigenous women. The designs and colours on blouses and skirts described nature, culture and the family history of those who wore the clothing. My father, Augusto, is a recognized stone carver from Quetzaltenango. For many years, el Señor Augusto worked on stone pieces used in building facades and home decor. My siblings also possessed a talent at drawing, painting and craft making, but for me, painting was more than just a hobby.
